Testimonials

During her short time with us in the College-Conservatory of Music, Ms. Steuver has demonstrated great leadership and citizenship and has developed partnerships within music education communities.
...Ms. Steuver did not hesitate to dive right in to sharing her expertise as a music educator in PK-12 educational settings with our undergraduate students who are preparing to enter the field. She immediately took on the role of graduate teaching assistant, voice tutor, and mentor to our undergraduate music education majors with verve and dedication. She accepted and rose to the challenge of serving as part of our new “mentornship” program in which a graduate student is paired with an undergraduate student in their junior year to develop teaching skills prior to the student teaching experience. She went above and beyond her role as graduate advisor to the CCM Chapter of the Ohio Collegiate Music Educators Association by taking initiative to give a professional development presentation on her previous leadership experience in musical theater. Several students reported after her presentation that they were motivated and inspired by her words and actions. Several of the students who are currently taking the course that we are co-teaching have also mentioned to me that they like her and appreciate her expertise. She has built a fabulous rapport with them in a short period of time.
...Ms. Steuver has a passion for social justice that is apparent in her teaching and her research.

Jessica has exhibited leadership as a music education division graduate teaching assistant in multiple ways.  Not only have her course evaluations been the highest in my ten years as supervisor for MUED 1011 Voice class, she has inspired many students that were in her class to continue taking private voice lessons once the semester ended. All of the students who requested to study voice privately were instrumental music education majors, who often prefer to play instead of sing, which is a testament to her positive influence. This is a prime example of motivating others to take actions that would not otherwise have been taken.
-Dr. Eva Floyd, UC CCM
After being taught by Jessica, I see more confidence in Rachel when she is singing. There seems to be more of a stage presence. Rachel feels that her head voice is getting better and staying on beat.
...Jessica is very positive and optimistic. She really wants her students to succeed. It has only been a short time [taking lessons], but there has been a significant difference in that short time.

My favorite thing about working with Jessica is that she’s always so nice and fun to be around! My voice has improved a lot; it was so shaky when I started but it’s much stronger now. I would definitely recommend lessons with Jessica - they’re super helpful and fun!
-Quinn, age 13
Jessica is extremely experienced, kind, patient, and caring. She always goes the extra mile to make sure her students are comfortable and challenges them without causing vocal damage. She creates a welcoming environment and is always willing to try different things to help students improve..
